Education Was Not Always a Right
For many, education was not a right that they
were allowed to enjoy. Today we send our children to school some
starting as early as 4 years old. The thought of whether we are
sending a male or a female to school is not considered. There was a
time in the not so distant past that girls were not allowed the
"fundamental human right" to which the United Nations says we are
entitled.
Although this is not a problem in the U.S. anymore there are
countries that do not believe the education of the female sex is
important. The uneducated woman can be caught in a cycle of poverty
that will be handed down to her children. What are the reasons for
the belief that a female should not be educated? It all boils down
to cultures that are sexist. They believe that the female is
inferior and should not have an education.
There is a solution for the women who desire an education and are
continually denied this basic human right. The number of
organizations supporting the world's women and girls in an effort
to help them improve life as they know it is

help these females. By contributing their time and support
financially, many volunteer organizations are striving to deliver
educational opportunities to women and girls the world over.
Denying education limits or eliminates the options women have for
financial independence, informed decision making and their options
for equal employment. When women are given the opportunity for an
education they are more equipped to break the cycle of poverty and
are more likely to ensure their children get an education as well.
